Guaranteed income in miami-dade county one person at a time

Mission And Vision

At GI 305, our mission is to foster social and economic empowerment for the residents and workforce of Miami, Florida. We achieve this through the establishment of a permanent guaranteed income program and grassroots organizing and educational initiatives that promote community engagement and equity.

We envision a Miami-Dade County where every resident enjoys economic stability and empowerment. We aspire towards a future where guaranteed income serves as a catalyst for social and economic enfranchisement, ensuring a thriving, inclusive, and equitable community.

What We Do

  • Starting in April 2024, GI 305 will be providing unconditional and unrestricted cash payments of $650/month to local residents and workers of Allapattah, Liberty City, Little Haiti, Little Havana, Overtown, and Wynwood. Gi 305’s guaranteed income program stands as a pioneering solution to address the pressing issues of housing insecurity and economic instability in Miami's historically marginalized neighborhoods.

To become enrolled in the eligible pool of applicants, participants must be over the age of 16 and reside and/or work in one or more of the following zipcode: 33125, 33127, 33128, 33135, 33136, 33142, 33147, 33150.

  • GI 305's grassroots campaign is a community-driven movement committed to fostering positive change from the ground up. It leverages local insights, engages directly with residents, and prioritizes the voices of those most impacted by economic disparities. Through canvassing, community forums, and strategic partnerships, GI 305's grassroots campaign aims to build a foundation of support and understanding, ensuring that the guaranteed income initiative reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of the Miami communities it serves.

Why Guaranteed Income?

Disrupting Economic Injustice

Guaranteed income challenges the status quo, providing individuals with the power to meet basic needs and reshaping a Miami where economic disparities are rectified.

Achieving Housing Stability

Guaranteed income removes economic barriers to housing instability, protects against emergency housing-related expenses, provides renters greater financial freedom, and acts as a tool to mitigate displacement.

Acting when traditional welfare doesn’t

Guaranteed income is a vehicle for community empowerment and self-determination. By providing unconditional cash, it dismantles structures of neglect and restores agency.

But What about…

How people will spend their money?

Contrary to common misconceptions, research indicates that most guaranteed income participants allocate the income toward what are considered essential needs.

if people stop working?

If a guaranteed income is set at an amount so that every person can meet their basic needs, and that person decides to leave their place of employment as a result, that speaks much more to the conditions of employment or low-standards of pay than to the willingness to work for an individual. In fact, those who receive a guaranteed income are 2.4 times more likely to find stable employment than those who don’t, according to SEED, a successful guaranteed income pilot rolled out in Stockton, California.Guaranteed income has also been shown to increase levels of entrepreneurship and charitable work, not to mention enabling families to enjoy newfound time to care for their loved ones.

participants losing their benefits?

Eligibility for many welfare programs are defined by income cliffs. In other words, increases in income often place individuals’ public benefits at risk, effectively disincentivizing work. GI 305 is dedicated to addressing this issue by offering participants access to a benefits counselor before enrollment and safeguarding against the potential loss of SNAP, SSI, or SSDI benefits.
